The Ministry of Liberation War Affairs has allocated Tk9.49 crore from the 2026-27 fiscal year’s budget to cover the immediate costs of burial, cremation and transportation of the bodies of freedom fighters.
The allocation was approved through an order issued by the ministry’s budget wing on 29 September.
The funds will be released to deputy commissioners (DCs) and upazila nirbahi officers (UNOs) across the country.
According to the order, the money will come from the Tk18 crore allocated for burial grants under honorarium allowances for wounded and other freedom fighters as part of the special operational budget for the 2026-27 fiscal year.
District and upazila administrations will withdraw the allocated funds through their respective district or upazila accounts offices. The Chief Accounts and Finance Officer has been asked to issue the necessary authority to the concerned accounts offices for releasing the funds.
The ministry said the released amount will subsequently be adjusted against the burial grant allocation earmarked in the current fiscal year’s budget.
DCs and UNOs will withdraw the money from the respective district and upazila treasuries against proper bills, according to the order.
The funds can be used only for the burial, cremation and transportation of the bodies of freedom fighters. They cannot be spent for any other purpose.
The ministry also instructed officials to strictly comply with government financial rules and regulations while using the funds.
The concerned disbursing authorities will be held responsible for any irregularities.
Any unspent amount remaining after June 30, 2027, must be returned to the designated government treasury account, with the Ministry of Liberation War Affairs informed accordingly.
The ministry has instructed the DCs of all 64 districts and all UNOs to take the necessary measures to implement the allocation.
Deputy Secretary (Budget) at the Ministry of Liberation War Affairs Dr Md Asaduzzaman signed the order.
