Ex-Chhatra Dal leader arrested over Radda clinic attack

Former Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal leader Sajjad Hossain Mishu has been arrested by detectives over allegations of involvement in the attack and vandalism at Radda clinic in Dhaka’s Mirpur.

Mishu, 36, is currently serving as vice-president of the Dhaka district unit of the Jatiyatabadi Cyber Dal.

The Detective Branch (DB) of Police disclosed the information in a statement on Saturday.

With this arrest, the total number of people arrested in connection with the incident has risen to 17.

More than 200 people attacked the Radda MCH-FP Centre in Mirpur on 25 September, carrying out vandalism and looting. Later, several structures of the health centre were demolished.

Following the incident, allegations of police inaction were raised, leading to the withdrawal of Jahangir Alam, then officer-in-charge (OC) of Shah Ali Police Station.

After allegations emerged that political leaders were involved in the attack, BNP dissolved the committee of its Dhaka North City unit. The party also dissolved the local committees of the Jubo Dal and Chhatra Dal and expelled several leaders and activists.

Meanwhile, reserved women’s seat MP Ferdousy Ahmed Misty resigned on Thursday after allegations emerged of her involvement in the incident. However, Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed said the investigation into all allegations against her will continue.
