Six-year-old Bayazid, who was abducted from his home in the capital’s Rupnagar 18 days ago, was rescued alive on Tuesday from Tongi in Gazipur by a team from SRB-4.
The child was rescued from the Sammilita Shishu Punarbasan Kendra (Boy Branch) located at Duttapara in Ershad Nagar Block 1 under Tongi East Police Station.
The details were disclosed by Lt Col Md Hafizur Rahman, Commanding Officer of the SRB-4 Battalion, at a press conference held at the battalion headquarters on Tuesday.
According to the case FIR, Bayazid was abducted on 18 September from House 36, Road 1, Block-A in Duaripara under Rupnagar Police Station. His father, Rafiqul Islam, works as a rickshaw puller, while his mother works as a domestic helper in various households.
On the morning of 18 September, his mother left for work leaving Bayazid and his father asleep at home. Waking up at noon, the father discovered that Bayazid was missing. After searching various places without success, the family filed a case with Rupnagar Police Station.
Following widespread coverage of the incident in the media and on social media, an SRB-4 team launched a shadow investigation. Analysing CCTV footage from around the scene, investigators tracked the child being taken nearly 1.5 kilometres away to Square Nursing Home Clinic.
CCTV footage at the clinic showed two women, Lipi and Nasrin, taking the child away, after which no further footage was available.
Investigations revealed that Kulsum, a tenant living next to Rafiqul Islam, had permitted her daughter Nasrin to stay at her residence for a few days.
Police found that Nasrin was involved with a child-stealing syndicate and had taken Bayazid along with Lipi with the intention of selling him. Police have arrested Kulsum, while operations to arrest other members of the syndicate remain ongoing.
The Commanding Officer stated that the child’s location was identified using information technology, intelligence data, and various sources. Drives continue to arrest all others involved in the abduction.
