Members of Special Response Battalion have rescued a teenager unharmed from Ukhiya in Cox’s Bazar after he was abducted from Teknaf for ransom.
The rescued teenager was Md Jasim, 15.
SRB-15 arrested Jamal Hossain, 31, in connection with the abduction. He is the son of Bashir Ahmad and a resident of Hatiar Ghona area in Teknaf, Cox’s Bazar.
According to officials, Jasim went missing from the Dakshin Lengur Bil area of Teknaf on the night of 25 September.
An unknown caller contacted his father, Syed Ahammad, through his Imo account and demanded Tk3 lakh in ransom on Sunday. The kidnappers threatened to kill Jasim if the money was not paid.
A General Diary (GD) was lodged with Teknaf Police Station on 28 September.
Acting on confidential information, a team from CPC-2 Whykong of SRB-15 conducted a raid around 4:30am on early Tuesday at the Hajongpara street intersection in Ward No 9 of Rajapalong Union, Ukhiya.
During the operation, the team rescued Jasim unharmed and arrested Jamal Hossain. A mobile phone allegedly used in the abduction was also seized from his possession.
AM Faruq, Assistant Superintendent of Police and Assistant Director (Law and Media) of SRB-15, said“The arrested person and the rescued teenager have been handed over to Teknaf Model Police Station for further legal action.”
