Detectives from Mirpur Division of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) have arrested two persons while they were positioned with arms in Pallabi, Dhaka.

The arrestees have been identified as Md Jonny, 28, and Md Parvez, 31. Deputy Commissioner (DC) of DMP Media and Public Relations Division Akhtar Hossain confirmed the information on Tuesday.

Citing the DB Mirpur Division, he said that based on a tip-off on Monday, a special operational team of the DB Mirpur Division learned that several armed individuals were positioned in Bauniabadh residential area under Pallabi Police Station in Dhaka.

Later, the special operational team of the DB Mirpur Division arrived at the scene and arrested Jonny and Parvez. At that time, another person named Babu ran away and escaped.

He said following the arrest, a body search of Jonny led to the recovery of an active 9 mm foreign pistol and a magazine from the waist of his trousers. Five rounds of 9 mm pistol ammunition were inside that magazine.

On the other hand, a magazine was recovered from Parvez’s trouser pocket, inside which three rounds of KF 7.65 ammunition were found.

Disclosing information obtained during interrogation, he said the fugitive Babu had another weapon in his possession.

They had been maintaining territorial control and establishing dominance in the area for a long time. In continuation of this, they were positioned at the scene with arms.

A case has been filed in this connection at DMP’s Pallabi Police Station. Subsequent legal action against the arrestees is currently under process.

The DMP official added that the DB Mirpur Division’s operation is ongoing to arrest the fugitive suspect Babu and recover the weapon in his possession.
