Police have arrested four associates of top terrorist Mohammad Yasin after facing gunfire in a remote hilly area of Jungle Salimpur under Sitakunda Upazila in Chattogram on Thursday afternoon.
Law enforcers seized one foreign pistol, one shotgun, and 16 rounds of ammunition from the possession of the arrestees.
The incident occurred at around 3pm when a police team conducted a drive based on specific information concerning the presence of terrorists and a stockpile of arms in the area. Upon detecting the arrival of the police team, the terrorists opened fire and tried to flee deeper into the hills to hide.
Police subsequently carried out an operation, apprehending Yasin’s four associates along with the arms and ammunition.
Chattogram District Additional Superintendent of Police (DB) Mohammad Russel confirmed the incident, stating that terrorists fired upon sensing police presence during an ongoing drive against them, which led to the arrests and weapon seizures.
Earlier this year on 9 March, a major joint operation involving around 3,200 members of the Army, RAB, Police, and BGB was conducted in Jungle Salimpur.
Although 22 individuals were arrested during that raid, several top terrorists, including Yasin and Rokon Uddin, managed to escape.
