SRB-7 has arrested a 42-year-old man, identified as Md Jabed, in the Bandar area of Chattogram on charges of stabbing his wife to death following a domestic feud over losing money in online gambling, while also recovering the blood-stained knife used in the crime.
The arrested individual, Jabed, is from Jorip Bari in the Adarshapara area under Ward No 37 of Bandar Police Station, while the victim has been identified as Sanju Bibi, 40.
SRB-7 Commanding Officer Lt Col Md Mostafizur Rahman shared the details at a press conference held at the Bahaddarhat Media Centre in the city on Wednesday afternoon.
He said that on Wednesday morning at around 10am, an altercation broke out between Jabed and Sanju Bibi in the Bandar area over his loss of money in online gambling, culminating in Jabed striking her in the neck with a knife.
As Sanju was critically injured, nearby residents rushed to the scene upon hearing her screams, during which time Jabed fled from the spot. Family members subsequently rescued Sanju and took her to Chittagong Medical College Hospital (CMCH), where the attending doctor declared her dead.
The SRB-7 commanding officer further said that upon receiving news of the murder, an operation was conducted in the Old Market area under Bandar Police Station based on secret information, leading to Jabed’s arrest within approximately two hours of the crime.
Following his arrest, based on information provided by Jabed, the blood-stained knife used in the killing was recovered from under a jackfruit tree in front of his residence. Subsequent legal proceedings against the arrested suspect are currently underway.
