Earlier, on 20 October 2025, Dhaka’s 6th Additional Metropolitan Sessions Judge Md Jannatul Ferdous Ibn Haque directed the Officer-in-Charge of Ramna Police Station to treat the case over the death of Chowdhury Mohammad Shahriar Emon, known as Salman Shah, as a murder case and submit a report.

The court order said the unnatural death case had been cancelled and revoked through an order issued on 31 October 2021.

According to the case statement, on 6 September 1996, Salman Shah’s mother Nilufar Zaman Chowdhury (Neela Chowdhury), his father Kamar Uddin Ahmed Chowdhury and younger brother Shahraan Shah went to Salman’s New Eskaton residence to meet him.

After reaching the house, Salman’s wife Samira and a domestic aide named Abul informed them that Salman was asleep. Film producer Siddique had also arrived there to meet Salman.

After learning that Salman was sleeping, his parents told Samira that they would meet him later on their way to Sylhet.

Later that day, production manager Selim called Kamar Uddin Ahmed Chowdhury and informed him that something had happened to Salman, urging them to immediately come to the house.

When Neela Chowdhury, her husband and their younger son reached the residence, they found Salman lying motionless in his bedroom. A few unidentified women were allegedly applying oil to his hands and feet.

In another room, Samira’s relative Ruby, who operated Mayfair Beauty Parlour nearby, was present.

Salman’s mother then screamed and urged everyone to take her son to hospital immediately. According to the case statement, one of Samira’s acquaintances shouted at her, saying, “You get out of my house.”

The family members rushed Salman towards Holy Family Hospital, where they allegedly noticed rope marks on his neck and found his face and legs turning blue.
His mother insisted that he be taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where doctors declared him dead upon arrival, saying he had died earlier.

Following the incident, Salman’s father Kamar Uddin Ahmed Chowdhury initially filed an unnatural death case.

On 24 July 1997, Salman’s father submitted a petition to the court alleging murder and seeking registration of the case under Section 302 of the Penal Code.
“As Salman’s father — my brother-in-law — has passed away, I am pursuing the case on behalf of my sister under the power of attorney vested in me,” the complainant said.
