South Africa secured the three match ODI series against Australia with a 32 run win in the second match in Johannesburg on Sunday.
Centuries from Temba Bavuma and David Miller powered South Africa to 365 for nine before their bowlers dismissed Australia for 333 in 49.5 overs.
The victory gave South Africa an unassailable 2-0 lead in the series with one match left. Australia chose to bowl first, but South Africa built a huge total after overcoming a difficult start.
Bavuma led the way with a patient 103 from 116 balls. He struck his sixth ODI century and held the innings together. Miller then took charge with an attacking 142 from 93 balls. He hit nine sixes on his way to his highest ODI score and eighth century in the format.
Jack Edwards was Australia’s best bowler. He claimed five wickets for 67 runs from his 10 overs. Australia made a strong start to their chase. Mitchell Marsh and Travis Head added 130 runs for the opening wicket in 17 overs. Marsh hit 84 from 53 balls, while Head also scored 84 from 76.
South Africa fought back through spin after the opening partnership. Keshav Maharaj and Bjorn Fortuin took two wickets each, while Aiden Markram picked up one. Their spells slowed Australia’s chase and put pressure on the middle order.
Xavier Bartlett kept Australia’s hopes alive late in the innings with 50 from 28 balls. However, the target proved too big as Australia were bowled out one ball before the end of their 50 overs.
South Africa have now won the first two matches to secure the series before the final ODI in Potchefstroom on Wednesday.
