Virat Kohli reached 15,000 ODI runs with an unbeaten century as India beat West Indies by eight wickets in the first ODI on Sunday.
Kohli scored an unbeaten 139 from 88 balls as India chased down 296 with 50 balls remaining. The win gave India a 1-0 lead in the three-match series.
The 37-year-old became only the second batter after Sachin Tendulkar to score 15,000 runs in ODI cricket. Shubman Gill also played a key role in the chase with 110 from 108 balls.
Rohit Sharma and Gill gave India a quick start with a 74-run opening stand. Rohit departed in the 12th over before Kohli joined Gill at the crease. The pair then took control of the chase. They added 151 runs from 132 balls for the second wicket.
Gill completed his 10th ODI century before Roston Chase ended his innings. Kohli continued to attack and brought up his 86th international century. Ruturaj Gaikwad then joined him and remained unbeaten on 13.
Kohli finished the match with two straight boundaries to complete a comfortable victory.
Earlier, West Indies posted 295 after being asked to bat first. Justin Greaves and John Campbell gave the visitors a strong start with a 135-run opening partnership.
Greaves took advantage of an early dropped chance and went on to score his maiden ODI century. Kuldeep Yadav finally gave India the breakthrough when he removed Campbell in the 20th over.
India then fought back through Kuldeep and Prasidh Krishna. West Indies lost four wickets for 22 runs between the 31st and 36th overs. Kuldeep finished with figures of 4 for 40 on his return to the ODI side.
Amir Jangoo helped West Indies recover with a quick 58 from 43 balls. His innings, along with support from Chase, took the visitors to 295.
But Kohli and Gill made the target look comfortable as India opened the series with a convincing win.
