Bangladesh wushu athlete Jinnat Akter received a warm welcome after returning home with her Asian Games bronze medal.
Jinnat arrived at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport on Saturday. The Bangladesh Olympic Association welcomed her with flowers.
She won bronze in the women’s 52kg wushu event at the 20th Asian Games in Aichi Nagoya, Japan.
Jinnat reached the semi-finals before losing to China’s Wu Di. Her run secured Bangladesh’s first individual Asian Games medal in 40 years.
Ministry of Youth and Sports Deputy Secretary Mohammad Ullah, National Sports Council Director of Sports Mohammad Jahed Parvez Chowdhury and BOA executive committee member Russell Kabir Sumon were present at the airport.
Officials from the Bangladesh Wushu Federation also attended the reception.
Jinnat’s achievement ended Bangladesh’s long wait for an individual medal at the Asian Games. Boxer Mosharraf Hossain was the last Bangladeshi to achieve the feat when he won bronze at the 1986 Seoul Asian Games.
