A motorcyclist was killed and another injured when a truck struck their motorcycle in the capital’s Bhatara Notun Bazar area on Tuesday night.
The deceased was identified as Suman, 22, a worker from Sadar upazila of Noakhali. Suman and his friend Rabiul Islam, 20, a cloth trader, lived in rented accommodation in Gulshan Shahjadpur.
The accident occurred around 9pm as they were travelling through Notun Bazar.
Suman was riding the motorcycle when a truck hit it from behind, said his friend Rakib Hossain. Rabiul was the pillion rider, he added.
Pedestrians initially took them to a local hospital. They were later transferred to the Emergency Department of Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH), where doctors declared Suman dead around 10pm.
Inspector Md Habibur Rahman, in charge of the DMCH Police Camp, said the body has been kept in the morgue for autopsy.
Rabiul is receiving treatment at the hospital.
