The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has asked KRATOS Energy Ltd to conduct a feasibility assessment for a proposed solar power project at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium, a BCB source confirmed to TIMES of Bangladesh.
BCB officials recently held a meeting with KRATOS representatives over the proposal, which includes rooftop solar panels, solar carports and provisions for future electric vehicle charging facilities at the Mirpur venue.
“The board has called KRATOS for a feasibility test, which will be conducted in the next few days,” a BCB source said.
The assessment will examine the stadium’s rooftop and parking areas to determine the viability and potential capacity of the proposed solar project. KRATOS had earlier submitted a Letter of Intent to BCB seeking access for a preliminary site survey and feasibility study.
The proposed model would require no upfront capital investment from BCB while potentially reducing electricity costs. A preliminary estimate suggests around 130,000 square feet of rooftop space could accommodate a solar photovoltaic system of approximately 1 MWp, though the final capacity will depend on the feasibility study.
If viable, the project could also provide shaded parking, support future EV infrastructure and reduce the stadium’s dependence on conventional grid electricity. KRATOS is also considering the initiative as a potential model for other BCB-owned venues.
