Four children died with measles symptoms in Sylhet in the last 24 hours. They died while undergoing treatment at Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital and Shaheed Shamsuddin Ahmed Hospital. With these deaths, the number of fatalities from measles and measles‑related symptoms in Sylhet division this year has risen to 164.
The information was disclosed in a report issued Monday by the office of the Sylhet Divisional Health Director.
According to health officials, among the four deceased children, two were from Sylhet, one from Sunamganj, and one from Habiganj. Three were being treated at Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital, while one was admitted to Shaheed Shamsuddin Ahmed Hospital.
The report further stated that so far this year, 164 children have died in Sylhet division from measles and measles‑related symptoms. Of them, 10 deaths were confirmed cases of measles, while 154 were deaths showing measles symptoms.
Meanwhile, in the past 24 hours, 146 new patients with measles or measles‑related symptoms were admitted to various hospitals across Sylhet division. At present, 495 patients are receiving treatment in different hospitals.
However, health authorities reported that no new measles cases were confirmed through laboratory testing in the past 24 hours.
