Robi, the Economic Reporters Forum (ERF) and the British Council Bangladesh have concluded a professional development programme for economic journalists aimed at strengthening language, communication and reporting skills for a rapidly evolving media landscape.

The specialised training focused on practical English language proficiency, professional communication and emerging issues shaping modern journalism, Robi said in a press release.

Certificates were presented to participants at a closing ceremony held on 28 June at the British Council auditorium on Fuller Road in Dhaka.

Investing in journalists helps strengthen Bangladesh’s economic ecosystem by equipping media professionals and amplifying the country’s global voice, British Council Bangladesh Country Director Stephen Forbes said.

The training will help journalists strengthen professional communication skills and adapt to a changing media landscape, Robi CEO Ziad Shatara said. He said the initiative aligns with the company’s “Advancing Digital Society” agenda of promoting knowledge and skills development to encourage greater participation in the digital economy, adding that Robi would continue supporting similar capacity-building programmes.

Continuous learning is essential for journalists to adapt to a changing media environment and better serve the public, ERF President Doulot Akter Mala said. She said partnerships among organisations play an important role in strengthening journalists’ professional capabilities.

Among others, the closing ceremony was attended by Robi Chief Corporate and Regulatory Officer Barrister Shahed Alam, Public Affairs and Sustainability Director Sharif Shah Jamal Raz, British Council Bangladesh Managing Director and Head of Market Zunayed Ahmed and ERF General Secretary Abul Kashem.
