Ahead of Eid-ul-Fitr, authorities across Bangladesh have stepped up mobile court operations to prevent fare manipulation and passenger harassment, imposing fines on transport operators and counters while refunding excess fares to passengers.
In the capital, transport operators Ilish Transport and Jamuna Hi-Deluxe were fined Tk5,000 in Fulbaria, Gulistan, and Jatrabari for overcharging.
In Dholai Para, four transport companies were fined Tk13,000, and three operators in Syedabad received fines totaling Tk11,000. Passengers were reimbursed for excess fares collected.
In Uttara Abdullahpur, two counters were penalised Tk10,000 for not displaying fare lists and charging extra. Separate drives in Kallyanpur, Gabtoli, Hemayetpur, and Savar resulted in Tk7,000 in fines from four cases. Similar operations in these areas on Wednesday had imposed Tk9,000 in penalties.
Outside Dhaka, mobile courts fined Tk7,000 in Chattogram’s Oxygen Mor and Tk5,000 in Tangail’s Elenga area. Barishal authorities imposed Tk3,000, while three cases at Khulna’s Rupsha Toll Plaza led to Tk6,000 in fines.
Officials said these actions will continue until Eid to ensure smooth and safe travel, with strict monitoring against fare irregularities, ticket violations, and passenger harassment.
