The United States is reportedly considering easing restrictions on Iranian oil held at sea to help stabilse global energy supplies, US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said in an interview with Fox Business.
Bessent indicated that, if necessary, Washington could also release oil from its own reserves to ensure a steady flow to international markets, reports Al Jazeera.
Earlier this week, he noted that Iranian oil tankers had begun leaving the Strait of Hormuz with US awareness, a move aimed at maintaining stability in global oil supplies.
Officials expect more details on the potential policy adjustment in the coming days, as markets continue to watch developments closely amid rising energy demand.
Besides, six nations – United Kingdom, France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, and Japan-have pledged to support safe navigation through the Strait of Hormuz and help stabilise global energy markets.
In a joint statement, the six countries condemned attacks by Iran and urged Tehran to halt such actions immediately.
The statement also highlighted plans to collaborate with energy-producing nations to boost output and maintain market stability amid ongoing geopolitical tensions.
