Dhaka University (DU) administration has formed three separate committees to investigate three recent activities of the Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (Ducsu).
The decision was announced on Monday night through a press release issued by the university’s Public Relations Office.
The three incidents under investigation involve the launching of a website named “DU Evaluation,” the erection of two monuments titled “Nirbheek July” without university permission, and the displaying of portraits of Pakistan’s founder Muhammad Ali Jinnah and Chhatra Sangha leader Abdul Malek in the Ducsu archive room.
According to the press release, the committees were constituted under Section 12(3) of the Dhaka University Order, 1973, in order to maintain overall discipline on campus. The investigation panels have been asked to submit their reports along with recommendations within seven working days.
The university authorities stated that subsequent decisions and actions will be taken based on these findings.
Committee on ‘DU evaluation’ website
A six-member committee has been formed to probe the launch of the “DU Evaluation” website. Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Administration) Professor Dr Mohammad Almojaddedi Alfechani will serve as the convener.
The other members are the pro-vice-chancellor (education), the dean of the faculty of law, the dean of the faculty of business studies, and the director of the institutional quality assurance cell (IQAC), with the Registrar acting as member secretary.
Committee on ‘Nirbheek July’ monuments
A five-member committee has been set up to investigate the unauthorized installation of two ‘Nirbheek July’ monuments – one located on the western side of the Ducsu building adjacent to the Arts Building, and the other situated in front of the Central Library.
Convener Pro-vice-chancellor (administration) will lead the panel, which includes the dean of the faculty of business studies, the dean of the faculty of law, and the proctor as members, while the estate manager will act as member secretary.
Committee on archive portraits
Another five-member committee has been constituted to look into the hanging of portraits of Muhammad Ali Jinnah and Abdul Malek in the Ducsu archive.
Also convened by the pro vice-chancellor (administration), its members include the dean of the faculty of law, the dean of the faculty of business studies, and the proctor, with the estate manager serving as member secretary.
