Bangladesh and Russia have agreed to accelerate the construction of Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant in line with set targets to ensure swift power generation and national grid supply.
The consensus was reached during a high-level bilateral meeting between Bangladesh’s Minister for Science and Technology, Faqir Mahbub Anam, and Alexey Likhachev, director general of Russia’s state atomic energy corporation, Rosatom.
The meeting was held on the sidelines of the 70th General Conference of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) in Vienna, Austria.
During the talks, both sides reviewed the latest progress of Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant project and detailed plans to ensure power supply to the national grid within the shortest possible time.
Minister Anam emphasised completing the remaining works rapidly whilst strictly maintaining international nuclear standards and maximum safety protocols.
In response, Rosatom Director General Alexey Likhachev assured continuous technical and strategic assistance for the project.
Attended by delegation members from both nations, the meeting took place in an extremely cordial atmosphere, where both sides reaffirmed their commitment to advancing Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant towards rapid and successful implementation.
At the conclusion of the talks, Faqir Mahbub Anam and Alexey Likhachev exchanged goodwill mementos as a symbol of friendly relations between Bangladesh and Russia.
