Disaster Management and Relief Minister Asadul Habib Dulu has said the current government is not following the conventional practices of previous administrations and will not do so in the future.
Although bringing changes may take some time, the government is working in line with the Prime Minister’s leadership and directives, he said.
Dulu made the remarks while addressing a meeting of the Thakurgaon District Law and Order Committee as the chief guest on Thursday evening.
He said lawlessness, irregularities and corruption in the past had often prevented the government from carrying out its work properly. People involved in crimes had also become powerful in different sectors. Such practices would no longer be allowed, he added.
The government was working to bring changes across every sector of the country, he said.
The minister also said elections held under the current government had demonstrated that polls were no longer being conducted in the way they were in the past, and would not be in the future. He cited the by-election in the Thakurgaon-1 constituency as further evidence of the change.
Highlighting the need for reforms to ensure overall national development, Dulu said the government was giving special attention to education, healthcare and cleanliness.
He stressed the need for all concerned to work sincerely to address the fragile state of the healthcare sector and reduce public suffering, complaints and distress.
Government offices, courts, hospitals and all other institutions must be kept clean, he said, adding that collective efforts and goodwill could resolve many problems.
He called on everyone to work together with a sense of responsibility.
Thakurgaon-1 MP Mirza Faisal Amin, Thakurgaon-2 MP Dr Abdus Salam, Thakurgaon-3 MP Zahidul Islam, Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Rafiqul Haque, representatives of law enforcement agencies and members of the district law and order committee attended the meeting.
