Jet fuel prices in Bangladesh’s domestic market have increased for the fourth consecutive month, with the Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (BERC) raising the rate by Tk6.32 per litre for November.
The latest increase follows a Tk17.06 per litre hike in October. However, the price of jet fuel for international flights has been reduced.
In a notification issued on Thursday, BERC fixed the price of jet fuel for domestic flights, including duty and value-added tax (VAT), at Tk189.03 per litre, up from Tk182.71 in October. The revised rate will take effect from midnight on Thursday.
Meanwhile, the price for international flights, excluding duty and VAT, has been cut from $1.1882 to $1.1637 per litre.
According to the BERC notification, the revised rates were determined based on the average international market price of Jet A-1 fuel quoted by Platts and the US dollar exchange rate reflected in letter of credit (LC) statements submitted by the Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation (BPC).
Jet fuel prices surged in the international market following the outbreak of conflict in the Middle East after attacks on Iran by the United States and Israel on 28 February. Iran retaliated with strikes in several countries across the region, while energy installations were also targeted during the hostilities.
Global fuel prices subsequently began to decline after a ceasefire came into effect.
Before the conflict, domestic jet fuel cost Tk95.12 per litre in February. The price was increased twice in March, by a combined Tk107 per litre. After falling for several months, prices began rising again, with increases recorded over the past four consecutive months.
Previously, BPC was responsible for setting jet fuel prices. However, after the interim government abolished the provision for fixing electricity and gas tariffs through executive orders, authority to determine prices for furnace oil and Jet A-1 was transferred to BERC through a gazette notification on 15 September 2024.
The commission held its first public hearing to determine jet fuel prices on 23 March 2025. Since then, it has been revising the rates every month.
