Dhaka stocks slipped below 5,400 on Monday as renewed selling pushed the benchmark index to the lowest level in nearly 15 weeks amid investor caution over the energy situation and geopolitical tensions in the Gulf.

The DSEX, the broad index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), fell 39.6 points, or 0.7 per cent, to its lowest level since 2 June.

An early recovery attempt quickly faded, with sellers dominating most of the session.

Of the 395 issues traded, 296 declined, 54 advanced and 45 remained unchanged.
