Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey has made Hollywood history, becoming the highest-grossing film in Universal Pictures’ 114-year history.
The Matt Damon-led epic has earned about $1.685 billion worldwide, surpassing Jurassic World’s $1.677 billion haul from 2015. It is also the highest-grossing film of Nolan’s career and the biggest film ever for IMAX.
Damon stars as Odysseus, with Tom Holland as his son Telemachus and Anne Hathaway as Penelope. Holland marks his first collaboration with Nolan, while Damon and Hathaway previously worked with the director on Interstellar. Damon also appeared in Oppenheimer.
The film continues to attract audiences through its theatrical run, including demand for IMAX 70mm screenings.
Universal has also announced a 19 November VOD release on platforms including Prime Video and Apple TV. It will later move to Peacock, although a streaming date has yet to be announced.
