Actor Rumana Islam Mukti, an executive member of the Bangladesh Film Artists Association, distributed winter clothing among low-income artists on January 13 at the association’s premises. More than 200 artists received warm clothes through the initiative.
Several prominent figures from the film industry attended the distribution programme, including Shilpi Samiti president Misha Sawdagar, co-general secretary Arman, Kamal Patekar, executive members Chunnu, Polly and Soni Rahman, as well as actors Bapparaj, Samrat and Tushar Khan.
Speaking at the event, Mukti said many artists are struggling because of irregular work opportunities and the ongoing downturn in the film industry. She said the lack of employment has left a large number of performers facing hardship during the winter season. Mukti described the distribution as a personal effort to support her colleagues, likening it to the tradition of exchanging gifts during Eid.
Mukti also revealed that she is working on a larger initiative to support low-income artists. She said the project addresses a long-standing demand and that she will announce it officially once all preparations are complete.
Rumana Islam Mukti is a well-known name in Dhaka cinema. She made her big-screen debut as Champa’s daughter Gopi in Gautam Ghosh’s ‘Padma Nadir Majhi’. She later played a film actor in ‘Chader Alo’ and gained widespread recognition for her role as a zamindar’s granddaughter in Humayun Ahmed’s ‘Srabon Megher Din’.
She later appeared in several other films, including ‘Hason Raja’, directed by Chashi Nazrul Islam. Although she does not act regularly in films at present, Mukti continues to attend industry events and remains actively involved in social and humanitarian work.
