BNP Standing Committee member Salahuddin Ahmed has reaffirmed the party’s commitment to July National Charter, adding that it was signed on the basis of consensus.
Speaking as the chief guest at the Pekua Upazila Ulama Mashayekh Conference on Wednesday afternoon, he said, “We will implement every proposal of the July National Charter, word for word.”
The event was held at the Pekua Ashraful Ulum Madrasa field in the coastal upazila of Cox’s Bazar., It also featured an award distribution ceremony for students who passed the annual merit scholarship examination conducted by Pekua Upazila Tanzime Ahle Huq.
Salahuddin emphasised that BNP has no stance outside of the July Charter. “We are united on whatever is nationally agreed upon. We are committed and pledged to the points of consensus,” he added.
He further remarked that the BNP practices politics for the welfare of the people, aiming to establish peace, order, the rule of law, and to ensure the democratic and constitutional rights of the citizens.
The BNP leader noted that the party has proposed certain reforms based on consensus and intends to follow them nationally.
Regarding the Constitution, the BNP leader reminded the audience that Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman first incorporated “Bismillah” and “trust and faith in Almighty Allah” as fundamental principles of state policy.
He alleged that the “fascist” Awami League government had removed these.
“We promise that if we are entrusted with responsibility, we will re-incorporate trust and faith in Almighty Allah into the fundamental principles of the Constitution, Insha’Allah,” he declared.
The programme was presided over by Ali Hasan Chowdhury, convener of Cox’s Bazar District Ulama Dal, and moderated by Ataullah Gani, Khatib of Cox’s Bazar Baitur Rahman Jame Mosque.
Other speakers at the event included Maulana Yasin Soltani; Maulana Solaiman, Director of Badarkhali Madinatul Madrasa; and Maulana Shahid Ullah, a teacher at Ashraful Madrasa. Following the discussion, the guests distributed prizes among the scholarship recipients.
