People of all religions in Bangladesh are practising their faiths peacefully, fearlessly and without any obstacles, Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Md Asaduzzaman has said.
The minister warned that no form of obstruction, disruption or hooliganism would be tolerated during religious ceremonies and rituals. He said those involved in such activities would be brought to justice once information about them was received.
He made the remarks on Friday morning while addressing a Janmashtami event at Mathbari Temple in Shailkupa, Jhenaidah.
Addressing members of the Sanatan community, the law minister said Lord Krishna appeared 5,000 years ago to destroy evil forces and darkness.
“When we work and speak out against evil forces and all forms of darkness in the country, I believe you will stand with us,” he said.
Extending greetings to devotees on the occasion of Lord Krishna’s birth anniversary, Asaduzzaman said he had joined the celebration to share their joy, devotion, respect, prayers and religious beliefs.
“You will celebrate your festivals, and the government is with you,” he assured.
The minister also said the government remains committed to ensuring a peaceful and favourable environment for people of all religions to practise their faiths.
Later, he joined a Janmashtami procession organised in the area.
Deputy Commissioner Md Noman Hossain, Superintendent of Police Miah Mohammad Ashis Bin Hasan, District Council Administrator M A Majid and Shailkupa Upazila Nirbahi Officer Md Mahfuzur Rahman, along with local social and political leaders, attended the event.
