A 38-year-old woman suffering from mental health issues and her six-year-old son, who went missing from Sreenagar in Munshiganj, have been rescued unharmed from Dinajpur by police within five days and reunited with their family.
The victims, residents of the Uttar Kamargaon area under Bhagyakul Union in Sreenagar, left their residence around 1pm on Friday, 16 October, and failed to return.
Following an unsuccessful search across various locations by family members, the victim’s sister filed a General Diary (GD) with Sreenagar Police Station on 17 October 2026.
According to Sub-Inspector (SI) Md Kamruzzaman Shikdar of Sreenagar Police Station, police initiated an investigation under the direction of Munshiganj Superintendent of Police (SP) Md Menhajul Alam to trace and return the mother and child to their family.
Following prompt and planned efforts, police received information from reliable sources that the missing mother and son were located in the Dinajpur Sadar Police Station area of Dinajpur district.
Subsequently, a team from Sreenagar Police Station rescued them from the area at 3:40am on 20 October and took them into police custody before safely handing them over to their family.
Guardians of the rescued duo stated that the woman was abandoned by her husband and suffers from mental health issues, for which she has been undergoing medical treatment for a long time.
Due to her mental condition, she had travelled from Dhamrai, Dhaka through several districts before reaching the Dinajpur Sadar Police Station area.
