David Hemp has been appointed head coach of the Bangladesh women’s national team on a two year deal, the Bangladesh Cricket Board confirmed on Wednesday.
The 55 year old will begin his new role during Bangladesh’s upcoming ODI tour of Australia. He will join the squad in Brisbane, with his contract running until September 2028.
Hemp replaces Sarwar Imran, who had been in charge of the women’s national team since February 2025.
The appointment marks Hemp’s return to the Bangladesh women’s setup. He worked as their batting coach during the Women’s ODI World Cup Qualifier in Pakistan in 2025.
He also held the same role during the Women’s T20 World Cup Qualifier in Nepal earlier this year.
Hemp has been working within the BCB setup since May 2023. He initially joined as head coach of the High Performance programme.
He later worked with the Bangladesh men’s national team during their tour of New Zealand in 2023. The BCB then appointed him as the men’s batting coach in 2024.
Hemp also brings experience from women’s international and domestic cricket.
He served as head coach of Pakistan Women from 2020 to 2022. He has also coached the Victoria women’s team and Melbourne Stars in the Women’s Big Bash League.
His first assignment in charge will be the three match ODI series against Australia in Brisbane. Bangladesh will play the matches on October 9, 11 and 14 at Allan Border Field.
