Midland Bank PLC, in collaboration with the Finance Club of Barishal University (BU), hosted a seminar titled “Financial Literacy” on the BU campus on Tuesday.
The event aimed to equip students with essential financial skills for making informed personal financial decisions.

The seminar covered a range of topics, including financial literacy, digital financial literacy, personal financial planning, budgeting, saving, and the benefits of compounding.

Other subjects included passive income, reserve funds, retirement plans, individual financial behaviour models, and IT awareness in digital banking.

Professor Dr Mohammad Taufiq Alam, vice-chancellor of BU, inaugurated the seminar. He welcomed the guests, highlighted the importance of financial education, and expressed gratitude to Midland Bank for their partnership. He encouraged similar initiatives in the future and stressed the importance of integrating practical financial knowledge into the curriculum.

Representing Midland Bank were Mohammad Faruq Ur Rahman, manager of the financial literacy wing and head of liability (retail) in the Retail Distribution Division, AHM Gazzali, cluster head-2, and Md Azmal Hossain, branch manager of Barishal.

BU’s Department of Finance and Banking was represented by Associate Professor and Chairman Tandra Mondal along with Assistant Professors Md Mahtab Uddin and Nusrat Jahan Benozir.
