The 7th convocation of Khulna University (KU) will be held on January 18 next year.
KU Vice-Chancellor Prof Md Rezaul Karim received the consent of university Chancellor and President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir for the proposed date during a courtesy meeting at Bangabhaban on Monday.
The meeting focused on preparations for the university’s 7th convocation and its overall development.
During the meeting, the vice-chancellor briefed the president on KU’s academic and research activities, highlighting the university’s work on the Sundarbans, coastal areas, salinity, climate change and disaster management.
Prof Rezaul also raised several challenges facing the university, including a shortage of residential facilities for students, inadequate classrooms and limited field research facilities.
The president urged Khulna University to strengthen its role in national policymaking through research and innovation.
He said KU’s location in the southwestern region gives it significant opportunities to conduct applied research on the Sundarbans, salinity, climate change, coastal environments and ecosystems.
Such research could make an important contribution to Bangladesh’s development and future planning, he said.
The president also said the university has the potential to emerge as one of the country’s leading research-based policy advisory institutions by further strengthening its research activities.
He provided guidance on improving the quality of education and research and also recalled his memories of Khulna University and its teachers.
President Mirza Fakhrul wished the university success in its 7th convocation and assured the authorities of his support in organising the event.
