Rashmika Mandanna is set to portray legendary Carnatic singer and Bharat Ratna awardee MS Subbulakshmi in an upcoming biopic, writes NDTV.

The film will be officially launched at the Music Academy in Chennai on Wednesday, 16 September, marking Subbulakshmi’s 110th birth anniversary.

Gowtam Tinnanuri will direct the biopic, while Anirudh Ravichander will compose its music. Geetha Arts, one of the production houses backing the project, announced the details on social media.

Actor, producer and parliamentarian Kamal Haasan will attend the launch as the chief guest. The event is scheduled to begin at 6pm.

Announcing the project on X, Geetha Arts described the film as “a legacy” and revealed its title as “MS – A Legacy On Screen”. The post also confirmed Rashmika as the lead actor, Tinnanuri as director and Anirudh as music composer.

Geetha Arts, Rockline Entertainment and Bunny Vas Works will jointly produce the film.

According to a report by Gulte, several actresses, including Sai Pallavi and Rukmini Vasanth, were previously considered for the role.

Rashmika was last seen in the lead role in “Cocktail 2”. She is also set to star alongside her husband Vijay Deverakonda in the period drama “Ranabaali”.

The actress will also appear in the upcoming action film “Mysaa”.
