The winners of the nationwide Bowler Hunt programme will join the Bangladesh Cricket Board’s (BCB) High Performance (HP) unit, board president Tamim Iqbal announced on Monday.

Tamim confirmed the decision during the prize distribution ceremony of the talent search programme. He said the board would take full responsibility for developing the young bowlers.

“Regarding today’s winners, I want to say on behalf of the BCB that they are now my responsibility. They will be under our HP unit and will receive proper training,” Tamim said.

The BCB organised the Bowler Hunt across the country throughout October. Local coaches and foreign experts worked together to find promising bowlers.

Tamim said the selected players would receive coaching, medical care and other support to help them improve.

“We want to develop them in the right way so that they can contribute much more to Bangladesh cricket. Rest assured that our experts, medical team and other facilities will take good care of them. We will make sure of that,” he said.

The BCB president also thanked the coaches who travelled across Bangladesh to identify new talent.

“You have worked hard in every division and every city to find the next Nahid Rana, the next Marufa and the next Taskin. On behalf of the BCB, I thank all of you,” he added.

Meanwhile, Tamim revealed that the board was working on another project that could benefit cricketers across the country.

“I am not fully ready yet, but I am very close to making an announcement that could be extremely beneficial for many cricketers across the country. My cricket board and I are working on a project, and we hope to announce it within a few weeks,” he said.

Tamim also highlighted the importance of sponsors in developing sports.

“Sponsors are extremely important for any sport. If sponsors are used properly and can plan and organise programmes in the right way, they can make a huge impact not only on cricket but on the entire sports sector,” he said.
