Popular singer-songwriter Masha Islam is preparing to step into an entirely new role this Eid as she makes her acting debut in the feature film ‘Bonolota Express’, directed by Tanim Noor. The film draws inspiration from celebrated littérateurs Humayun Ahmed’s ‘Kichukkhan’ and is scheduled for a nationwide theatrical release during Eid-ul-Fitr.
Known primarily for her music, Masha will appear on screen for the first time in the project. She revealed that her involvement with the film began out of admiration for the director’s work. Initially interested in contributing behind the scenes, she was encouraged by Tanim Noor to audition for a role instead. After submitting a recorded audition, she was selected to join the cast.
For the singer, the opportunity holds special significance as the film is rooted in the literary world of Humayun Ahmed. Although she had previously received offers to act, she had not pursued them seriously until this project came along.
Bonolota Express features an ensemble cast including Mosharraf Karim, Chanchal Chowdhury, Ajmeri Haque Badhon, Zakia Bari Momo, Shariful Raj, Intekhab Dinar, Shyamal Mawla, Sabila Noor and AK Azad Setu.
Following its Eid release in cinemas across Bangladesh, the film is expected to open internationally on April 3.
The project is produced by Buriganga Talkies in collaboration with Hoichoi Studios, with support from Dope Productions.
