Actor and comedian Mary Holland has joined the cast of HBO Max’s upcoming Superman spinoff centred on Jimmy Olsen, taking on the female lead role of Sandra, reports Deadline.
Holland has been cast opposite Jimmy Tatro, who was previously announced as Gorilla Grodd, the iconic hyper-intelligent telepathic ape from DC Comics.
Neither HBO Max nor DC Studios has officially commented on the casting.
The untitled series is set in the world established by James Gunn’s Superman and is described as a true-crime mockumentary hosted by Jimmy Olsen, reprising the character played by Skyler Gisondo in the hit superhero film.
The first season will focus on Gorilla Grodd, the legendary DC villain who gained psychic abilities and super-intelligence after an encounter with an alien spacecraft. Created by John Broome and Carmine Infantino in 1959, Grodd has long been one of The Flash’s most formidable adversaries.
The series is created by Tony Yacenda and Dan Perrault, the duo behind Netflix’s acclaimed mockumentary American Vandal. Both will serve as writers, showrunners and executive producers.
DC Studios co-heads James Gunn and Peter Safran are also executive producing, with Warner Bros. Television producing the series.
Holland is best known for her comedic performances and currently appears in the CBS sitcom Ghosts and Netflix’s reboot of The Little House on the Prairie.
Her recent credits also include The Big Door Prize, Nightbitch, Self Reliance, The Woman in the House Across the Street from the Girl in the Window, Senior Year, and Under the Lights.
She is also currently filming the upcoming television series The Earliest Show.
The Jimmy Olsen series marks another expansion of James Gunn’s growing DC Universe following the success of Superman.
