Robert Pattinson has teased a major shift in ‘The Batman: Part II’, describing the upcoming sequel as an ambitious project that takes the franchise in a very different direction from the first film, writes Variety.
Speaking to Collider, Pattinson said the sequel would represent another distinct interpretation of the Batman story while retaining some of the atmosphere established by the 2022 film.
“It’s so ambitious. I mean, I sort of said the other day on something that the first one was a different take on a Batman movie, and this one is another,” he said. “It’s a real left turn from the first one, but somehow it keeps elements of the kind of feel of it. But it just feels really ambitious, and I’m excited to see how it turns out.”
‘The Batman: Part II’ is scheduled to reach cinemas on 18 February 2028, with Matt Reeves returning to direct the sequel. Pattinson will reprise his role as Bruce Wayne, while Scarlett Johansson and Sebastian Stan are set to join him in the cast.
Charles Dance, Brian Tyree Henry and Sebastian Koch are also expected to appear. However, the filmmakers have kept the plot details of the sequel largely secret.
Reeves completed the script in June 2025, according to a previous Variety report. The sequel was first announced in 2022, shortly after ‘The Batman’ opened in cinemas.
The long wait between the two films has also drawn attention. By the time ‘The Batman: Part II’ arrives, six years will have passed since the release of its predecessor.
DC Studios co-chief James Gunn previously addressed concerns over the delay, saying long gaps between major film sequels are not unusual. He pointed to several franchises that took years to produce follow-ups, including ‘Alien’, ‘The Incredibles’, ‘Terminator’, ‘Avatar’, ‘Top Gun’ and ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’.
