Actor Vivek Oberoi has backed Salman Khan’s recent criticism of social media trolling, saying people should avoid spreading negativity online, states Hindustan Times.
Vivek spoke to Bollywood Chronicle on Tuesday while attending an event organised by the Cancer Patients Aid Association (CPAA) for children battling cancer. Asked about Salman’s remarks on trolling during ‘Bigg Boss 20’, he said, “Kuch nahi yaar, mujhe lagta hai trolling wagera karna bhi nahi chahiye.
Trolling is a very negative thing, and there are a lot of positive things to do in life kya negative mein padhe ho (Nothing, yaar. I feel people shouldn’t troll others either. Trolling is a very negative thing, and there are so many positive things to do in life. Why get caught up in negativity?).”
During the latest ‘Weekend Ka Vaar’ episode, Salman criticised users who target celebrities over their appearance. He said he had also faced age-shaming online, including being called “budha”, while users mocked his bald appearance.
Salman also defended Katrina Kaif against comments about her postpartum weight. “Everyone puts on weight after getting pregnant. When she returns to films, she will get back in shape. She wants to spend time with her family,” he said.
The actor also responded to trolls who had criticised his physique, showing off his toned body after removing his shirt. He explained that his bald look was for an upcoming film and referred to the recent death of a close friend. Salman further criticised people who make money by putting others down, calling them “parasites”.
Vivek and Salman have a long history of public tension dating back to 2003, when Vivek held a press conference and alleged that Salman had repeatedly called and threatened him over his association with Aishwarya Rai.
Salman denied the allegations. Vivek later acknowledged that holding the press conference was a mistake and has spoken about its impact on his personal and professional life.
Vivek will next appear in Nitesh Tiwari’s ‘Ramayana’. The two-part film stars Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Rama, Sai Pallavi as Sita, Sunny Deol as Lord Hanuman, Ravi Dubey as Lakshman and Yash as Ravana. The first part is scheduled for release on Diwali 2026, followed by the second part on Diwali 2027.
