A 40-year-old man named Tutul Hossain was shot dead by unidentified assailants in Kushtia Sadar Upazila on Tuesday night.
The incident occurred around 9pm and the body was found near the Kushtia-Jhenaidah highway, adjacent to the Madhupur cattle market.
Local residents discovered the body lying by the roadside and immediately alerted the police. Upon arriving at the scene, police recovered a short gun, several rounds of ammunition, and a motorcycle from the vicinity.
The victim, Tutul Hossain, was a resident of Madhupur village. He had returned to Bangladesh after living abroad for several years and had been running a small business at a local market.
Islamic University Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mehedi Hasan said, “Locals informed us after spotting the body. Police arrived at the scene and recovered the firearm, ammunition, and a motorcycle from near the deceased.”
He added that initial investigations suggest Tutul may have been killed elsewhere, and his body was dumped at the location. The body has been sent to Kushtia General Hospital for an autopsy.
A murder case will be filed in connection with the incident, according to the police.
The investigation is ongoing.
