A clash broke out during an eviction drive in Dhaka’s Mirpur-10 area on Wednesday, during which three city corporation garbage trucks were set on fire and a police vehicle was vandalised.
Mirpur Model Police Station Officer-in-charge Mohammad Hafizur Rahman confirmed the incident.
The vendors assaulted a Somoy TV reporter and a cameraperson and vandalised a Jamuna TV vehicle during the clash.
A fire broke out due to an electrical short circuit while authorities were carrying out an eviction drive on footpaths. Agitated by the incident, hawkers and pavement traders allegedly set fire to the garbage trucks.
During the unrest, they also vandalised an excavator and a police vehicle.
Two units of the Fire Service and Civil Defence were working to bring the blaze under control.
