Rajshahi University Central Students’ Union (Rucsu) General Secretary Salahuddin Ammar has had his “Sathi” membership of Chhatra Shibir cancelled over allegations of organisational misconduct, including alleged involvement in selling posts in the Rajshahi metropolitan and district committees of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement for money.

Hafez Mehedi Hasan, general secretary of the university unit of Chhatra Shibir, confirmed the development.

“The incident dates back to 2025. He was expelled from the organisation over allegations of irregularities,” he said.

A letter issued by university unit Shibir president Mujahid Faisal on 31 July outlined several allegations against Ammar.

According to the letter, a monthly secretariat meeting in February 2025 decided to suspend Ammar’s Sathi membership over allegations of moral misconduct, negligence in performing basic religious duties, inappropriate interactions with women, illegal financial transactions and misappropriation of assets, as well as involvement in activities contrary to the organisation’s objectives.

The letter said his membership was later cancelled at the September 2025 monthly secretariat meeting after he allegedly failed to provide satisfactory explanations regarding the allegations.

It further claimed that Ammar’s activities, including alleged involvement in acts that could constitute criminal offences, were contributing to instability on the university campus. His “provocative activities” could push the campus towards conflict, it said.

Shibir members were instructed not to make positive or negative comments about Ammar’s online or offline activities. Only elected Rucsu representatives were told to maintain official communication with him, according to the letter.

An earlier letter signed by then university unit Shibir president Mustakur Rahman Zahid on 4 February 2025, also referred to allegations against Ammar.

The letter said allegations had surfaced that Ammar was involved in selling posts in the Rajshahi metropolitan and district committees of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement in exchange for money.

It said the allegations came to the organisation’s attention through reports published in various media outlets. Several other allegations of moral misconduct were also mentioned.

The allegations were discussed at the university unit’s monthly secretariat meeting on 3 February 2025, where members unanimously decided to suspend Ammar’s Sathi membership for violating organisational discipline, according to the letter.

Ammar has repeatedly denied having any affiliation with Chhatra Shibir.

He was elected Rucsu general secretary from the “Adhipatya-Birodhi Oikya” panel, which was widely described as a Shibir-backed “dummy panel” during the Rucsu election.

The panel’s vice-presidential candidate Mehedi Sajib later emerged as the university unit Shibir’s publicity and media secretary.

Ammar’s name appearing in Shibir’s records as a former Sathi has renewed questions over the panel’s alleged links with the organisation. Attempts to contact Ammar for comment were unsuccessful.
