Khulna University (KU) has decided to ban male workers from the canteens of its two female student halls following the incident of secret video recording in Bijoy’24 female hall bathroom.
The decision was taken during a series of meetings on Thursday led by Treasurer Professor Md Nurunnabi and Vice Chancellor Professor Md Rezaul Karim.
Senior university officials, including deans, hall provosts, the registrar and the director of student affairs, attended the meetings. All examinations scheduled for Thursday were postponed following the incident.
The university filed a case at Harintana Police Station against canteen worker Md Imam Hasan and his wife Rupa Moni. After appearing before a court, Imam Hasan was sent to jail.
The hall administration has formed a five member probe committee to investigate the incident and submit its report within three working days.
The accused’s canteen allotment has been cancelled, hall employees have been prohibited from carrying mobile phones inside the halls, and no male staff will be employed in the canteens of Aparajita and Bijoy’24 female halls.
