Erling Haaland scored the 300th goal of his club career as Manchester City claimed a 1-0 win over Coventry City in the Premier League on Saturday.
The Norway striker reached the milestone with a header in the 26th minute. His goal proved enough to give City all three points.
The victory was Manchester City’s third in a row and moved them to the top of the Premier League table.
Haaland has now scored 165 goals for Manchester City. He previously scored 86 for Borussia Dortmund, 29 for Red Bull Salzburg and 20 for Molde.
The striker has also enjoyed a strong record against promoted Premier League teams. He has scored 20 goals against promoted sides, with Sunderland the only one to keep him out last season.
New signing Enzo Fernandez also made his Manchester City debut against Coventry. City signed the former Chelsea midfielder for £125 million.
Fernandez started in place of the injured Nico O’Reilly. He played the ball to Antoine Semenyo in the move that ended with Haaland heading home the winner.
Coventry made City work hard for the victory.
Taiwo Awoniyi had a good chance when he went one on one with Gianluigi Donnarumma but failed to score.
Donnarumma also denied Jack Rudoni and Ellis Simms as Coventry searched for an equaliser.
City had chances to make the game more comfortable but could not add another goal.
Manchester City manager Enzo Maresca admitted his team had to suffer late in the match.
“It is an important win, different from the first two. They have all been different,” Maresca said.
“In the end, we finished by suffering together, and it is an important win.”
Coventry manager Frank Lampard was pleased with his team’s performance despite the defeat.
“Good performance from us. Felt like we deserved something from the game,” Lampard said.
“Our defensive organisation was great. We created moments of pressure, three big chances.”
Coventry remain without a goal since returning to the Premier League, while City continue their perfect start with three straight victories.
