The physical condition of BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia, who is undergoing treatment at Evercare Hospital in the capital, has shown slight improvement.
She has now been shifted to a cabin, and her doctors say she will need more time to recover fully. Her personal physician, Mohammad Al Mamun, said her condition has improved compared to before.
Professor FM Siddiqui, a member of Khaleda Zia’s medical board, said she is receiving treatment under close observation after doctors detected an infection in her lungs.
Another board member, BNP Standing Committee member Dr AZM Zahid Hossain, requested prayers from the nation for her recovery. He also urged the media and concerned parties not to spread misleading information about her health.
According to BNP sources, Khaleda Zia’s son Tarique Rahman and his wife Dr Zubaida Rahman have been monitoring her condition daily from London. In Dhaka, the former prime minister is being looked after by Syeda Sharmila Rahman Shithi, wife of her late younger son Arafat Rahman Koko.
Last Sunday, she was taken to Evercare Hospital around 8pm after suddenly experiencing breathing difficulties. Her treatment is being led by Professor Shahabuddin Talukder, a specialist at Evercare Hospital.
BNP and leaders, activists and supporters from its affiliated organisations have also offered special prayers at different locations across the country seeking her recovery.
