The Chittagong University (CU) unit of Chhatra Dal has been accused of threatening to “beat and throw out” Atish Dipankar Hall vice president Ripul Chakma from the dormitory after 28 days.
The incident reportedly took place around 8pm Monday in room 313 of Atish Dipankar Hall.
Ripul alleged that after learning a new student had arrived at the hall, he informed Provost Prof AGM Niazuddin on Sunday evening.
The following day, senior residential teacher and hall treasurer Nurul Alam visited the room, accompanied by Ripul and several hall council members.
During the visit, Chhatra Dal joint general secretary Hasan Ahmed objected to Ripul’s presence with the teacher, saying he should have informed the provost directly. An argument ensued, during which Ripul was allegedly threatened.
An audio recording from the scene captured Hasan Ahmed saying, “You’re talking too much, don’t you realise who you’re speaking to…”
Chhatra Dal assistant general secretary Nasim Uddin was also heard saying, “You’ve got 28 days left with your power… after that I’ll beat you out of the hall if I’m still here.”
Ripul said, “I’m not responsible for checking rooms. My duty is to inform the provost as per rules. The teachers asked for our cooperation during the inspection, so we accompanied them. But instead of following procedure, I was threatened.”
After the incident, the residential teacher informed other faculty members, the proctorial team, and CUCSU leaders, who came to the hall, heard both sides, and calmed the situation.
However, Hasan and Nasim could not be reached for comment. Hasan did not answer repeated calls, while Nasim’s phone remained switched off.
Senior residential teacher Md Nurul Alam said, “After receiving the complaint, I went to room 313. The residents said no outsiders were staying there. Those present were guests who had come to visit.”
Assistant proctor Prof Kamrul Islam said, “Following a complaint, we conducted a raid in one of the hall rooms but found no evidence. If a formal complaint is lodged, we will take action.”
