Union Parishad (UP) elections will be held in seven phases across a total of 4,580 unions, starting with the first phase on 12 November, Election Commissioner Brig Gen (retd) Abul Fazal Md Sanaullah announced on Monday.
Speaking to journalists following a commission meeting, the Election Commissioner detailed the timeline for the seven-phase polls.
Following the initial phase on 12 November, the second phase will take place on 13 December, the third phase on 30 December, the fourth phase on 17 January next year, the fifth phase on 4 February next year, the sixth phase on 22 April, and the seventh phase on 27 May.
He noted that local government elections could begin in the first phase with UP polls across 80 upazilas, pointing out that these decisions are preliminary. He added that discussions will be held with all registered political parties regarding the local government elections.
