Jahangirnagar University (JU) will host its 15th annual Butterfly Fair on Friday, organized by the Entomology Department under the Faculty of Biological Sciences. This year’s fair carries the theme, ”Ure akashe projapoti, prokriti paye notun goti.”
Speaking at a press conference on Wednesday at the teacher’s Lounge of the central cafeteria, Professor Monowar Hossain, the fair coordinator, said the event has been held every year since 2010 to promote butterfly conservation and public awareness.
This year, Syeda Rizwana Hasan, adviser on Environment, Forest and Climate, will attend as the chief guest.
Hossain added that the third edition of the book ”Butterflies of Bangladesh” will be unveiled during the fair. The publication features images of 360 butterfly species, their biology, and DNA-based identification details.
The fair will also showcase an open garden at the Butterfly Park and Research Centre, including butterflies, butterfly-friendly trees, and breeding areas.
In addition, the event will feature a colourful rally, puppet shows based on butterfly stories, origami parades, painting competitions for children and teenagers, quizzes on butterflies and nature, documentary screenings, day-long butterfly market visits, photo exhibitions, and butterfly-identification contests.
The Butterfly Award 2025 will be presented to wildlife expert and conservationist Ali Reza Khan for his outstanding contributions to butterfly conservation.
Meanwhile, the Butterfly Young Enthusiast Award 2025 will be jointly awarded to JU Biology Department students Sabbir Ahmed, Shahriar Rabbi Tanmoy, and Nure Afsari.
