The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Bangladesh (ICAB) hosted a reception in Dhaka to honour Nasser Rahman, MP Fazley Houda, MP and Mohd Aslam Chowdhury FCA, Member of the Bangladesh Jatiya Sangsad-Elect, following their election to the 13th Bangladesh Parliament in the polls held on 12 February 2026.
The event was organised in recognition of their electoral success and in appreciation of their contributions to public service and national development. ICAB also highlighted their association with the Chartered Accountancy profession and their role in supporting professional excellence, institutional governance and Bangladesh’s socio-economic progress, said in a press release.
Speaking at the programme, Nasser Rahman said he would extend his full support to the development of the Chartered Accountancy profession in Bangladesh. He pointed to challenges facing CA firms, particularly in revenue generation and attracting students, and stressed the need to strengthen review and training systems for students to improve the quality of professional education and increase pass rates in CA examinations.
Fazley Houda said chartered accountants could play a significant role in supporting government efforts to raise Bangladesh’s tax-to-GDP ratio. He said expanding cashless transactions and accelerating the digitisation of financial activities were essential for improving transparency, accountability and efficiency in corporate governance and public administration.
Mohd Aslam Chowdhury FCA was unable to attend the programme because of other commitments.
Earlier, ICAB President NKA Mobin FCA presented an overview of the institute’s activities, achievements and future priorities. Through a presentation, he outlined ongoing initiatives aimed at strengthening professional standards, enhancing member services, expanding educational opportunities and supporting Bangladesh’s economic development through a strong and internationally recognised Chartered Accountancy profession.
ICAB Acting Chief Executive Officer Mostafa Kamal FCA delivered the welcome address.
The reception was attended by ICAB council members, past presidents, senior professionals, members of the institute and distinguished guests from a range of sectors.
