Sharon Stone has criticised contemporary portrayals of sex on screen, saying they have become “blatant” and “harsh” and no longer leave anything to the imagination.
The Oscar-nominated actress spoke to CBS Mornings while promoting her upcoming role in ‘Euphoria’ Season 3.
Reflecting on her own iconic nude scene in 1992’s ‘Basic Instinct’, Stone noted that the controversy it generated was fuelled by what was left unseen. “This hope, this wonder, this mystery, this intrigue, this yearning is what all of our profound sexuality is based on,” she said.
Stone admits she often fast-forwards through sex scenes on television. “I don’t want to have to go through all of this blatant, harsh sexuality. I fast-forward, I don’t want to see it. For me, it steals from my own imagination,” she explained.
Stone also recounted being misled about the nude scene in Basic Instinct, only seeing the final cut alongside her agents and lawyers. She later confronted director Paul Verhoeven in the projection booth.
Recently, Amazon MGM Studios announced a reboot of Basic Instinct, with original writer Joe Eszterhas returning. Stone responded to the news with a blunt message, “Go ahead. Good luck.”
