Andrew Garfield steps into the shoes of OpenAI CEO Sam Altman in the first trailer for Artificial, released on 8 September.
According to Deadline, the film explores the dramatic events surrounding Altman’s 2023 removal from OpenAI and his swift return.
Garfield’s Altman discusses AI and ChatGPT before warning that its release has “opened Pandora’s box”.
The film also stars Yura Borisov, Monica Barbaro as Mira Murati and Ike Barinholtz as Elon Musk. Cooper Hoffman, Jason Schwartzman and Mark Rylance also feature.
In November 2023, OpenAI’s board removed Altman, saying he had not been consistently honest with it. Murati became interim CEO before Altman returned within days.
Luca Guadagnino directs from a screenplay by Simon Rich. Artificial will premiere at the New York Film Festival in October and reach cinemas on 25 December.
