The current government is following the same path as the past fascist regime after coming to power, former interim government adviser and NCP spokesperson Asif Mahmud Shojib Bhuiyan has alleged.
Speaking on the second day of a three-day annual gathering in Barishal Sadar Upazila on Thursday, Bhuiyan accused the government of failing to uphold the commitments made before the election.
“The commitments that everyone had before the election, the current government is not upholding them after being elected. They are resorting to deceiving the people,” he said.
“The current government has been unable to give anything to Bangladesh, nor does it have the desire to do so,” Bhuiyan added.
The NCP spokesperson also criticised the government’s handling of the ongoing fuel crisis, calling for action against the large companies involved in the oil syndicate.
“Instead of just conducting raids on pumps to resolve the fuel crisis, operations should be carried out against the large companies involved in the oil syndicate,” he said.
He further noted that if proper planning had been done from the beginning, the crisis would not have been created.
Earlier in the morning, Asif Mahmud led an NCP delegation to the darbar of Charmonai to participate in the gathering. After Fajr prayers, Charmonai Mufti Syed Muhammad Rezaul Karim delivered his discourse, following which he held a brief informal exchange with the delegation.
Among those present were Islami Andolan Joint Secretary General Maulana Ghazi Ataur Rahman, Joint Secretary General Engineer Ashraful Alam, NCP Joint Convener Sarwar Tushar, Joint Member Secretary Faisal Mahmud Shanto, Central Organiser Maulana Sanaullah Khan, Central Member Hamza Mahbub, Anti-Discrimination Student Movement Central President Rifat Rashid, student leader and former DU CVP candidate Abdul Kader, and National Student Power leader Zubair Hossain, among others.
