The Election Commission (EC) has requested a meeting with President Md Sahabuddin on 10 or 11 December to discuss the upcoming election and referendum schedules.
Senior Secretary of the EC Secretariat Akhtar Ahmed revealed the development on Thursday at a workshop held at the Election Training Institute in Agargaon.
He said the Commission sent a letter to Bangabhaban earlier in the day, seeking an appointment at noon on either of the proposed dates.
Akhtar Ahmed also said that two political parties, Janatar Dal and Amjanatar Dal are set to be added to the EC’s list of registered political organisations.
Following a reinvestigation, the Commission found evidence of their organisational activities at district and upazila levels.
“As both parties have met the required criteria, the Commission has taken an policy decision to grant them registration,” he said.
Meanwhile, the EC has also called an internal session for 7 December to discuss final arrangements for announcing the schedule. The Commission is aiming to hold the national election sometime between 8 and 12 February.
